What does it mean to be part of the Endure24 family?
For some, it’s donning a dinosaur suit and charging through the woods. For others, it’s a triumphant return from injury, or a storm-soaked night run that turns into a story for the ages. We recently asked our community to share their favourite memories from past events—and what they’re looking forward to this year. The answers were funny, emotional, and utterly inspiring.
Here are just a few.
Costumes, Chaos and Camaraderie
James Horman has been to six Endure24s:
“Too many memories to recall: 31 minutes as an 8ft Dino, 28 minutes as a nun, 27 minutes as a Mexican wrestler… or just 16 marauding wrestlers in 2024 finishing in one piece (and 3rd mixed team). This year’s theme? It’s going to top everything!”
Meanwhile, Sharon “Skee” Harrison from Team Talk to Me Goose sums it up like this:
“We perhaps partied a little too much on the Friday 😂… but pulled ourselves round (just!) and logged 21 laps. From glamping to fireside chats to dancing our socks off—this event is about so much more than running. It’s memories. It’s magic.”
The Comebacks That Give Us Goosebumps
Peter Tott’s story left us speechless.
After suffering a heart attack just months after completing a 100km ultra and being told to stop endurance racing for good, he returned to Endure24… and ran 50k.
“I never cry at events—but I had an emotional moment. I’d only planned for 3 laps. Six months post-rehab, I did 50k. 2023 was 40 miles. 2024 was 50 miles. And this year? I’m aiming for 100k.”
That spirit of resilience echoed in Sharon Fields’ story too:
“My first solo, I managed 65 miles… in a Wonder Woman outfit! I’d love to get past 65 miles this year—but I’ve only had two months to train after a calf operation. We’ll see what happens!”
Milestones and Magic Moments
There are victories that go beyond medals.
Rachel Williams recalls:
“Running through the finish line with my daughter by my side will be something I’ll remember for a very long time. This year, I’m crewing—seeing it all from the other side of the ropes. I can’t wait.”
For Wendy-Jayne McCallum, it was a perfect birthday:
“Completing 50 miles on my 50th, dressed as Wonder Woman, still makes me smile.”
And for John Boddington, a dramatic podium finish was earned the hard way:
“Our lead was down to 7 seconds. I didn’t know what the other team looked like—I just had to give it everything. We held on. Podium secured.”
The Ultra That Changes Lives
Perhaps no story embodies the Endure24 spirit quite like Jordan Withers’:
“Reading 2023 was my first ever ultra. I’d never run more than a half marathon. No training. Just showed up. I hoped for 100 miles… and got it, with seconds to spare.”
He went on to win Leeds 2024 solo. And who presented the trophy? The same runner he once watched break the course record.
“I owe a lot to Endure24. I didn’t know what I was capable of until I took the plunge.”
