Why Relay Racing Should Be Your New Favourite Thing

How it Works

A club, a crew, or just a group of mates – whoever you run with, community is at the heart of the running renaissance. And yet, on race day, taking your place at the start line can still feel pretty lonely.

For too long, team racing has been the preserve of Olympians and elites. Endure Relays – the latest event from Threshold Sports – is here to change that.

Kicking off in Finsbury Park in London on October 18th, Endure Relays is the ultimate team running challenge. Running in teams of four, you’ll have four hours to rack up as many laps of the 2.5km course as you can, with each runner passing on to the next at the end of their lap to keep the pace hot and the energy high.

If you’ve ever run a race and thought, “This would be even better with friends,” then read on for five reasons relay running might be your new favourite thing.

Shared Goals, Shared Glory

When was the last time you did something as a team? (Demolishing an XL pizza doesn’t count.)

At Endure Relays, every lap you complete isn’t just for you—it’s for your crew. That shared sense of purpose creates an atmosphere of support and celebration that solo races (or XL pizzas) just can’t match.

Team Tactics

Strategy plays a big role in relay racing, and at Endure Relays you’ll have to ask yourself some tough questions. Questions like, “Who runs when?”, “How should we pace ourselves?”, and “Did Dan really just run a 3:20 kilometre straight out the gate and jeopardise our entire race?”*

It’s a mental game as much as a physical one. Figuring it out together is half the fun. (The other half is RACING!)

All Abilities Welcome

At most races, your whippet “runs-a-sub-1:30-half-with-their-eyes-shut” clubmate doesn’t get to spend much time with the “runs-2:30-on-a-good-day-and-their-eyes-are-definitely-not-shut” crowd.

But at Endure Relays, different paces and abilities all get to share the same experience together. Everyone contributes, and every effort counts.

More Than Just a Race

“What do I do between laps?” I hear you ask. Well, you could twiddle your thumbs if you like. OR you could have a wander around the food trucks, vendors, and entertainment on offer. Maybe even indulge in a bit of retail therapy.

There’s plenty to see and do at Endure Relays outside of racing, so bring your loved ones: kids, dogs, and well-behaved grown-ups welcome.

Unforgettable Memories

“Remember that time when I ran that race on my own?” said nobody EVER. At Endure Relays, the shared challenge will lead to share stories, collective memories, and tales for the ages. Good times!
